Why play hard to get?

So I've wondered this for some time and was recently put in a position where I've been told to play hard to get. The guy and I dated a little a couple months ago, things got serious super quick. We decided to stop seeing each other (I was scared, I don't know what his deal was). We started talking again not too long ago. We talked about getting back together and all that good stuff, but people are telling me to make him come to me and not the other way around. If I want to talk to someone or I want to be with someone, whats the point in waiting for him to make the move? Why do girls have to wait for the guy and why do guys get the unwritten law of being able to make the first move? I don't want to seem needy but texting him or what not, but at the same time I don't want to seem like I don't care. So answer me this, why play hard to get and if you are how far do you take it and for how long?Why play hard to get?
It's not that girls can't make the first move or anything but relationships are like a cat and mouse chase. Even though it is so typical, girls are normally the mouse in the game because a lot of times guys wont be interested in someone that will tell him anything he wants to hear. If you want to be with him and he's telling you that he's scared, your job is to keep him interested. By doing that you have to play hard to get. If you play hard to get you need to only do it until you know for a fact that whatever happens he wont leave you. Hope that helps!Why play hard to get?

Sometimes, people play hard to get in other to exert their power over the other person. Also it's to feel appreciated, and to gauge whether the other person is worthy of you, if they truly care for you and want to be with you, because if they do, then they'll come to you. Also girls like being chased by guys.. especially guys they like, so i suppose its for the thrill of it as well.
